coastal Karnataka, Mangalore and Udupi worst hit
Mangalore witnessed the highest ever rainfall of approximately 635 millimeters (25 in) in 24 hours on 29 May 2018.
9 hours of
downpour brings Mangaluru to its knees; Udupi sees widespread damage.The region
also witnessed heavy rainfall which uprooted many trees and caused floods.
Within an hour after heavy downpour, low-lying areas
started getting water-logged and it extended to other places which never
witnessed any floods in the history.
RSS Swayamsevaks
offered immediate help, served food and
shelter for the people who were affected by heavy rain in Mangaluru today
evening. RSS Mangaluru Vibhag Karyalay Sanghaniketan provided shelter for the
needy.
Narendra Modi tweets
“I pray for the safety and wellbeing of all those
affected by heavy rains in various parts of Karnataka. Have spoken to officials
and asked them to ensure all possible assistance in the affected areas.”
